Q) How do I access a networked printer from my wireless notebook computer?
A) Two things you will need to know before you start are the server and printer name of the printer you want to print to:
- If the printer is in a lab, the server name should be labserv3
- The printer name will be located on the printer (ex.: ms23690, bd11190, etc.)
Once you have the above information, follow these instructions:
- Go to Start
- Click on Control Panel
- Click on Printer and Faxes
- Click on Add a Printer (on the left)
- Click on Next
- Choose A network printer, or a printer attached to another computer
- Click on Next
- Choose the 2nd option, Connect to this printer...
- In the Name box, you will need to enter the server and printer name in the format shown: \\server\printer ex.: \\labserv3.ad.uafortsmith.edu\lb20091
- Click Next
- Enter your domain and username where prompted in the format student\username (ex.: student\sname00)
- Enter your password
- Click on Yes
- Choose whether you want this printer to be your default printer (most likely No)
- Click on Next
- Click on Finish
