Assumptions
- You are running WindowsXP?. If you have a Mac, then you need to go here: Instructions for a Mac
- You have a valid windows login and password, and have used it to log on to a wired computer on campus.
- You have a wireless card that supports the following:
- 802.11b or 802.11g
- WPA or LEAP - Authentication
- You are running Windows XP Service Pack 2. Service Pack 2 is available from Microsoft at http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com. If you aren't sure you are running Service Pack 2 or not you can verify it by the following:
- Right click on My Computer and choose Properties.
- Under the General tab find the label that reads "System:"
- It should list your Service Pack level under the version portion. If Service Pack 1 is listed or no service pack is listed at all, you need to download Service Pack 2 from Microsoft.
Generic instructions for most cards
- Install the hardware and drivers as directed by the installation instructions with the card.
- Click on Start
- Click on Control Panel
- Click on Network and Internet Connections
- Note: If you are running in Classic View, you skip this step.
- Click on Network Connections
- Locate your network card, which should be named something like "Wireless Network Connection", and double click on it.
- Click on the Advanced button
- Click on the Wireless Networks tab

- Make sure the box is checked next to "Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings"
- Click on the Add button in the "Preferred Networks" section
- In the "Network Name (SSID)" field enter: 5210
- In the "Network Authentication" field select WPA from the drop down box.
- Note: if you do not have WPA as an option, try updating your drivers
- In the "Data encryption" field select TKIP

- Click on the Authentication tab at the top
- In the "EAP type" field select Protected EAP (PEAP)
- Uncheck "Authenticate as computer when computer information is available"

- Click on the Properties button
- Uncheck "Validate server certificate"
- Under "Select Authentication Method" select Secured password (EAP-MSCHAP v2)

- Click on the Configure button
- Uncheck "Automatically use my Windows login name and password (and domain if any)."
- Click ok, ok, ok, ok
