- Census Date: The 11th day of classes in a fall or spring semester and the 5th day of classes during each summer session.
- Credit Hour: A credit hour is assign to courses or course equivalent learning that is part of an organized and specified program leading to a certificate or degree. One(1) credit hour is based on the learning expected from 750 minutes of classroom instruction.
- Degree-seeking Student: A student enrolled in credit courses and recognized by UA Fort Smith as seeking a degree or certificate.
- FTE(Full-time Equivalent) Student: Full-time Equivalency provides a method of equating part-time and full-time student enrollments into an equivalent full-time enrollment. A semester FTE is determined by dividing student semester credit hours by 15. The semester FTE measure is typically used as a standard measure of enrollment each semester. An annual FTE is determined by dividing the student semester credit hours produced in a fiscal year by 30. The annual FTE is typically used for funding formulas by the Arkansas Department of Higher Education and the Arkansas Legislature.
- Headcount: A count of each student enrolled in a course, program, or semester.
- Unduplicated Headcount - each student is counted once regardless of how many times the student is registered. Example: an unduplicated headcount for the 1998-1999 academic year would count each student only once even if he or she enrolled during both the Fall and Spring semesters.
- Duplicated Headcount - each student is counted each time he or she enrolls. Example: a student enrolls for both the Fall and Spring semesters. In a duplicated headcount, the student would be counted twice, once for each enrollment period.
- Non-degree Seeking Student: A student who is not a candidate for a certificate or degree, although they are taking credit courses in regular classes with other students. Students can only be classified as non-degree seeking their first semester of enrollment.
- SSCH: Student Semester Credit Hours are college credit hours taken by students. SSCH for a course is calculated by multiplying the number of students enrolled by the credit hours assigned to the course.
